Ray’s practice encompasses all areas of intellectual property law — patents, trademarks, trade secrets, interference practice and related areas — for clients in the food and agribusiness industry.
He has prepared and prosecuted numerous patent applications (foreign and domestic) pertaining to a wide range of technology, with a focus on chemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology applications. Ray has prepared and argued numerous appeals to the federal Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences and has conducted patentability, infringement, validity and patent clearance opinions. He has also negotiated and prepared a variety of technology-related agreements, including patent licensing, know-how and confidentiality agreements. He has been an advisor to the U.S. State Department on foreign patent laws. Former clients include Solutia Inc., Mallinckrodt and Purina.
Ray worked for Monsanto Co. from 1964 to 1968 and from 1981 to retirement in 1996 as Consulting Patent Counsel.
