As an attorney and CPA, Rachel focuses her practice on federal and state tax issues in both planning and controversy matters.
As a Certified Public Accountant, Rachel is able to understand the financial aspects of clients’ businesses and employ her accounting and tax knowledge to help guide clients toward the best possible tax solutions. Rachel has assisted in the representation of clients in various industries, including airlines, telecommunication companies, corn and ethanol producers, healthcare providers, manufacturers, local businesses and individuals. She has worked with individuals, partnerships and corporations in a wide variety of tax audits, administrative appeals and litigation.
For state and local tax matters, her work has covered property tax, sales and use tax, transfer tax, and franchise and income tax. Rachel has assisted in disputes with the Wisconsin Department of Revenue and local assessing authorities. For federal tax matters, her work has covered civil tax controversy matters and business transactions, including purchases, sales, mergers and restructurings. Rachel uses her internship experience at the Internal Revenue Service to assist on how she approaches dealings with the IRS.
Rachel has assisted in representing renewable energy entities, helping to structure energy projects in light of federal tax credits. She also has experience with nonprofit tax work, specifically in the areas of nonprofit tax planning, federal exempt status applications, and instances where nonprofit work intersects with property tax exemptions. She takes pleasure in delving into tax research and procedural processes and is comfortable working at federal, state and local levels of taxation.
