Overview

Mike focuses on the complex real estate, corporate and construction aspects of the development of renewable energy projects throughout the United States.

He coordinates review of real property acquisition agreements and documents, as well as title and survey matters.

Mike routinely coordinates resolution of real estate, environmental and permitting issues in the acquisition and finance of utility scale wind and solar projects. Mike also focuses on construction, with an emphasis on preparation, negotiation and review of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts and project lien issues.

The scope of Mike’s national practice includes renewable project development in numerous states involving wind and solar facilities totaling more than 2 gigawatts of capacity. His notable work includes:

  • Represented Algonquin Power in securing construction and tax equity financing and in ongoing operational matters for the 150-megawatt Deerfield wind project in Michigan. 
  • Served as local tax equity counsel on behalf of GE, handling real estate matters for its investment in the 200-megawatt Buckthorn wind facility in Texas, the 150-megawatt Lindahl wind farm in North Dakota and the 166-megawatt Cimarron I and II wind facilities in Kansas.
  • Served as real estate and corporate counsel for the financing of the Bakersfield II solar project in California.

  • Advised Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. on forming $608 million joint venture with Abengoa, S.A., of Spain for international development and construction of clean energy and water infrastructure assets.
  • Represented Algonquin Power in development, construction financing and tax equity financing for the 200-megawatt Odell wind farm in Minnesota.
  • Represented Algonquin Power in securing construction financing and tax equity financing and in ongoing operational matters for the 150-megawatt Deerfield wind project in Michigan.
  • Served as local tax equity counsel on behalf of GE, handling real estate matters in the financing for the 200-megawatt Buckthorn wind facility in Texas , the 150-megawatt Lindahl wind farm in North Dakota, and the 166-megawatt Cimarron I and II wind facilities in Kansas.

  • Represented Black Hills corporation on real estate matters in the sale of its equity interest in a 200-megawatt, combined-cycle natural gas generating facility in Pueblo, Colorado.
  • Served as local tax equity counsel on behalf of GE, handling real estate matters in the financing for the 120-megawatt Gunsight Wind Energy Center in Texas.
