Malia helps clients navigate evolving privacy laws and emerging technologies.

Clients of all sizes – from innovative startups to Fortune 500 corporations – value Malia’s counsel on a broad range of privacy and cybersecurity issues, including incident response in times of emergency. She advises clients on privacy compliance planning, which encompasses cybersecurity measures as well as drafting breach response and action plans. Malia assists clients with various consumer privacy laws including:

  • European Union (EU) General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
  • California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (CCPA)
  • Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act (GLBA)
  • Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)

In addition to privacy counsel, Malia reviews software, licensing, maintenance and related technology agreements. She guides clients through the privacy aspects of eCommerce transactions and assists them with contractual agreements including terms and conditions, consulting and professional services agreements.

Malia’s background as a business development professional – particularly her eCommerce marketing experience – is appreciated by clients. Having worked at a subsidiary owned by the online auction website, eBay, provides Malia with first-hand knowledge of how data flows. She has valued insight into the business and privacy concerns of eCommerce clients, such as online advertising, cookies and tracking.

Outside the Office

Malia and her husband enjoy traveling and exploring the outdoors with their young son and Vizsla.

Community Leadership

As part of her pro bono practice, Malia represented an incarcerated individual who was pursuing a Section 1983 sexual assault claim.

She has also volunteered her time and skills to the Wills for Heroes Foundation, providing legal documents at no cost to first responders.
