Laura is passionate about helping employers navigate the complexities and nuances of compliance and litigation matters that arise in all stages of the employment relationship. She advises clients on responding to discrimination and wage and hour claims; maintaining compliance with the Americans with Disabilities, Family and Medical Leave, and Fair Labor Standards Acts; preparing severance, settlement and employment agreements; and addressing violations of restrictive covenants and confidentiality obligations by former employees.
During law school, Laura served as a law clerk with The Marcus Corporation, where she supported the legal department in corporate matters such as responding to discrimination complaints; ensuring compliance in employment applications, Forms I-9, and criminal background checks and drug testing; and preparing sexual harassment training resources. She also served as a volunteer with the Marquette Volunteer Legal Clinic, providing guidance to individuals with questions on small claims, divorce and landlord–tenant issues.
Prior to law school, Laura was a financial specialist for the Department of Surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, where she helped manage the department’s non-grant funding and endowments.
