Jon is a member of Husch Blackwell’s Technology, Manufacturing & Transportation industry team. He has extensive experience as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives and as an entrepreneur, and was a shareholder of several startups including Presidents Trust Company, Open Range Communications and Motricity. He is currently the Managing Partner of Appo-G, LLC.
Jon has an active government affairs practice. He has represented the largest publicly traded telecommunications manufacturing firm in China, the world's largest energy company, the fifth largest telecommunications carrier in the U.S. and the fastest growing Hispanic telecommunications infrastructure provider in the U.S. He has experience in political risk management and advises clients with insurance regulators, state treasurers and Republican Governors.
Jon has navigated the intricacies of bureaucratic agencies for clients who seek to participate in government-sponsored programs, delivering federal procurement and winning contracts. He has represented clients in complex tax matters, investigations and disputes with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Department of Commerce, Department of Treasury, National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and various congressional committees.
During his terms as a U.S. congressman from 1994 to 1998, Jon served on the U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means, overseeing tax, trade, healthcare and Social Security issues. He authored the Independent Contractor Tax Fairness and Simplification Act, recognized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the National Federation of Independent Business and other pro-business organizations as their top legislative priority.
