Gary’s practice includes all phases of patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret acquisition, licensing and enforcement, both domestically and internationally. His technical areas of practice are the chemical, biological, metallurgical and mechanical arts. Gary is a member of the firm’s Technology, Manufacturing & Transportation industry team.
Gary has extensive experience preparing and prosecuting U.S. and international patent, trademark and copyright applications. He drafts and negotiates domestic and international agreements pertaining to technology licensing, university and contract research, technology acquisition and divestment, consulting agreements and secrecy agreements. In addition, he is experienced in preparing patent, trademark and copyright validity, infringement and clearance opinions and managing and settling patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret disputes.
Gary’s international experience includes negotiating and preparing technology transfer agreements in China, Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, Finland, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Peru. He has also participated in dispute resolutions regarding technological subject matter in Japan, France and Germany.
Prior to joining the firm in 1991, Gary practiced for more than 15 years as an in-house corporate counsel, first with a leading international chemical company and then with a leading international oil company with extensive mining interests.
