A passion for helping entrepreneurs achieve their goals coupled with a degree in corporate accounting led Derek to corporate law, serving on the firm’s team that navigates clients through mergers and acquisitions, commercial lending, securities law compliance and commercial contracting. Derek enjoys working with clients at all phases of growth, from emerging startups to multinational corporations. He assists clients in numerous sectors including:

Derek provides counsel and transactional work including corporate governance, due diligence, drafting and reviewing a wide range of contracts, and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings. Clients appreciate that he has held not only legal internships, but banking and treasury internships, and understands the intersection of finance and law. He enjoys acting as a business partner, helping clients assess and navigate the legal aspects of complex deals so they can stay on track with business goals.

  • On pro bono basis, drafted services agreement for nonprofit women's welfare organization that was collaborating with nonprofit low-income housing partner on remodel of residential space.
Outside the Office

Derek enjoys the great outdoors, including the occasional snowfall.

Derek has found the rare places to snow ski in the Southeast: the Great Smoky Mountains and a few spots in West Virginia. He also enjoys hiking, fishing and cheering on the Tennessee Vols.
