For over a decade, Dan has advised an impressive roster of healthcare provider clients in connection with a variety of legal and operational challenges, blending a business-centric approach to healthcare with regulatory considerations, including compliance with the 340B Drug Pricing Program, vendor and payor contract negotiations, provider-based conversion assessments and compliance, reimbursement strategies, mergers and acquisitions, and establishing value-based care models.
Early in his career, Dan assisted in establishing one of the earliest 340B audit processes, and clients have routinely turned to Dan for guidance with the 340B program. He has helped health systems save hundreds of millions of dollars through optimization and program redesign and has assisted clients with over 100 HRSA and drug manufacturer audits/inquiries.
As more and more providers assess their healthcare delivery models in light of changing reimbursement policies, Dan has assisted numerous clients with feasibility studies and strategies for facility development. He has led hospitals through the provider-based HOPD conversion process and put in place the proper procedures to ensure regulatory compliance while simultaneously implementing IT, operational, financial, and other integration requirements.
The healthcare industry has experienced rapid integration and consolidation, and Dan has played a major role in assisting clients with mergers and acquisitions that have included hospitals, medical groups, and health systems. He has managed all aspects and phases of dealmaking, including the regulatory component so vital to getting healthcare deals across the finish line.
Dan has also advised on the establishment of value-based care models through state, federal and private payors, including ACOs, bundled payments, community-based partnerships, behavioral health, dual-eligibles, clinical co-management, MSAs, PSAs, clinical integration, and population health, among others.
Prior to entering private practice at Husch Blackwell, Dan was Vice President at a full-service healthcare consultancy, managing a robust roster of healthcare provider clients. His consulting experience has enabled Dan to develop a practical, business-centric approach to healthcare providers’ operational, legal and business challenges, and he enjoys finding solutions that improve outcomes and care delivery while creating corporate value for his clients.
