With a focus on real estate transactions, Courtney aims to serve as a true partner to clients.

Courtney traces her interest in law to childhood, when she observed her attorney father at work and in the courtroom. As she grew up, she was drawn to the intellectual challenge that made his career so rewarding. However, the litigation central to her father’s practice wasn’t appealing: instead, Courtney’s collaborative skills made transactional work an excellent fit.

Today, Courtney counsels clients across a wide variety of corporate real estate issues. Her experience includes acquisition, disposition, development and leasing of commercial property, as well as extensive work with investors and affordable housing. She is especially knowledgeable about tax credit projects.

Courtney places a high priority on working closely with clients to achieve the best deal possible—and then to get it over the finish line. She truly enjoys building relationships with clients, many of whom she has represented for years, and considers the highest compliment to be when clients view her more as a teammate than as outside counsel.

Case Studies
U.S. Beef & Platform Ventures

When U.S. Beef, formerly the largest franchisee of Arby’s restaurants in the U.S., sought to shift its business focus after selling its restaurant assets in December 2018, it partnered with Platform Ventures, an investment firm, to acquire the Plaza Vista Office Building, located on the west end of Kansas City’s iconic Plaza District, from EverWest Real Estate Investors. The deal proved to be incredibly complex, and U.S. Beef and Platform turned to Husch Blackwell for guidance in turning their plans into reality.

Outside the Office

Courtney spends time with her husband and two elementary-aged children. The family especially enjoys being outdoors, traveling, watching movies and hanging out with their pets.

A passionate animal lover, Courtney is the proud owner of two shelter cats. She previously worked as a shelter volunteer and currently supports local shelters and rescue organizations around the community.
