As a commercial litigator, Catherine guides clients in solving contentious disputes and complex insolvency matters.

Collaborating on the firm’s Financial Services & Capital Markets team, Catherine regularly represents global insurance companies, domestic lenders, mortgage servicers, large banks, healthcare lenders and suppliers, as well as local small businesses in state and federal courts. She handles claims of breach of contract, fraud, and negligence as well as issues surrounding the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act (DTPA) and Texas Insurance Code.

Catherine is also an advocate for clients on a broad range of insolvency and bankruptcy matters, representing both creditors and debtors in Chapter 11 and 7 bankruptcy cases. Catherine is trusted for enforcement assistance and creditors’ rights counsel, as well as negotiating restructures and workouts.

Catherine believes the first step in solving any dispute is identifying client objectives and providing practical options toward reaching those goals. She strives to serve as a business partner as well as a litigator, keeping operational targets in mind as she designs legal strategy for clients.

Commercial Litigation

  • Defended mortgage servicers and large banks against consumer claims throughout Texas state and federal courts regarding contract and title disputes, the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), Truth in Lending Act (TILA), Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), and various other state and federal laws.
  • Served on secondment at U.S. mortgage servicer with portfolio of approximately $500 billion and more than 3 million customers as in-house counsel providing support for litigation intake group and advising client on new nationwide federal and state lawsuits.
  • Guided client mediation and other settlement negotiations.
  • Represented businesses in breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duties, fraud and negligence claims.
  • Represented commercial lenders in prosecution of claims against guarantors and defended lenders against liability counterclaims brought by guarantors.
  • Handled arbitration for manufacturer, obtaining complete defense ruling in product liability case in Arizona.


  • Represented media company creditor in various stages of complex Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.
  • Successfully handled litigation on behalf of client for violations of bankruptcy stay and discharge injunction.
  • Represented multiple creditors in Chapter 7, 11 and 13 bankruptcies and adversary proceedings, streamlining settlements.
  • Represented debtors and creditors in objections to discharge and nondischargeability proceedings in bankruptcy court.
  • Represented creditors in defending objections to proofs of claim and preference actions.


  • Advised insurance companies of their coverage obligations surrounding commercial general liability, commercial property and business income, directors and officers liability, professional malpractice coverage, claims handling standards and insurance disputes.
Outside the Office

Catherine spends her free time attending exercise classes, volunteering with animals and dining with friends. She also enjoys traveling domestically (Austin, Los Angeles and New York) and internationally (Spain, Italy and Mexico). On her short list of upcoming trips is Thailand, Japan and Croatia.
