Bob advises clients on a range of intellectual property and data privacy issues, keeping up to date on emerging technologies.  

Bob is an experienced intellectual property attorney with established success in the protection and commercialization of intellectual property assets. In addition, Bob is a forward thinker who tracks the changing landscape of technical innovation and the law surrounding the Internet of Things, blockchain, smart contracts and data privacy. He regularly contributes to the firm’s Byte Back blog, frequently speaks on blockchain and helps clients navigate risks and regulations accompanying its adoption. Bob also advises clients on privacy issues related to information collected through e-commerce platforms and assists with California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and European Union General Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR) compliance strategies. Often serving as outside counsel for clients, he advises on technology acquisition and web- and mobile-based commerce.

As part of his multidisciplinary intellectual property practice, Bob drafts and negotiates software licenses, software and mobile application development agreements, data sharing and management agreements, and website terms of use and privacy policies. He also assists clients in obtaining U.S. and international intellectual property rights through patent prosecution, trademark prosecution and copyright registration. Drafting intellectual property-related agreements, such as patent, copyright and trademark licenses and assignments, is another way Bob moves clients forward.

Bob also contributes his knowledge of software and trademarks to the firm's Cannabis team, counseling marijuana and industrial hemp clients. Prior to launching his legal career, Bob worked as a structural engineer in the construction industry, which trained him to seek perspective into how individual client matters compose elements of broader business goals.

Outside the Office

Bob likes hiking, skiing and camping with his family. He also enjoys the solace of attempting to lure a trout with a fly while standing in a river and waving a stick (i.e., fly fishing).
