Overview

Whether advising on an insurance issue, engaging in commercial litigation or defending a product liability action, Tyler stays highly motivated by taking on new challenges that align with clients’ goals.

Tyler advises both insurance carriers and their insureds, making certain that clients have the information they need to make smart decisions that achieve their business objectives. He advises insurance companies on coverage issues and claims handling. In counseling businesses on policy coverage and exposures, he develops insurance strategies that minimize risk and possible litigation. Tyler also is working with clients on insurance coverage and risks involving the growing cannabis industry.

A significant portion of Tyler’s practice focuses on commercial litigation, including defending manufacturers against product liability claims. Tyler has represented manufacturers in state and federal courts and in arbitrations, and he counsels manufacturers in various industries on minimizing their product liability risk. He also has experience prosecuting and defending professional malpractice claims and business disputes, including workers’ compensation, general negligence and breach of contract claims.

Advised on a wide range of insurance products, including commercial general liability, commercial property and business income, directors and officers liability, professional malpractice, life insurance, stop-loss, automobile and transactional (e.g., representations and warranties).
Counseled business clients on all aspects of insurance law, including coverage, claims handling standards and insurance disputes.
Defended insurance company in multiple class actions across the country alleging coverage for business interruption losses allegedly arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tyler enjoys skiing and live music.

As an avid skier, Tyler travels to Colorado each year to snow ski at his favorite destinations of Keystone, Vail and Telluride. He listens to a variety of music and never misses the opportunity to see a show live.

Community Leadership

Tyler donates his time working with fellow University of Missouri supporters to raise money for scholarships for students with financial need in the Kansas City area and working with fellow attorneys in the Lawyers Association of Kansas City on service projects to support local families in need.
