Overview

Mara helps clients navigate renewable energy projects from idea to commercial operation.

Developers, investors, and lenders rely on Mara’s guidance in the development, acquisition, and funding of wind, solar, and battery storage projects nationwide. As part of the firm’s Energy & Natural Resources team, Mara prepares and negotiates wind, solar, and battery storage leases and other transaction and financing documents; advises clients on related real estate and land use issues; and has a broad range of experience in developing, funding, and financing projects. While her practice is primarily real estate and development focused, Mara is also experienced at drafting power purchase agreements, energy storage services agreements, and other offtake agreements.

Mara first began her career in traditional commercial real estate but soon began to focus on the renewable energy industry. She finds it immensely rewarding to be part of the massive energy transition happening worldwide, and she loves the complexity of such a rapidly growing and changing area of law. Mara is particularly focused on greenfield development, and she thrives on the challenge of project development on sites with environmental issues, prior or current mineral activity, or other constraints that add an extra layer of complexity.

Mara is known as a highly business-minded attorney: prior to rejoining the firm in 2024, she served as in-house commercial counsel for a solar and battery storage developer. The experience gave her an inside view of the business needs underlying clients’ plans and priorities, as well as how outside counsel can best offer support.

Outside the Office

Mara enjoys adventures and road trips with her Golden Retriever, Henry—although Henry’s car tolerance is limited to about four hours, so the pair tend to stay close to their Boston home. Their most epic trip was the 1,500-mile drive required for their 2021 move from Kansas City to Boston. (Henry was very glad to get there.)
