Mark Savit, senior counsel in Husch Blackwell’s Energy & Natural Resources group, was named the 2016 recipient of the President’s Citation Award from the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME).
The award, established in 1978, recognizes a significant individual contribution to the organization. "The Society recognizes Mark N. Savit for his resolute commitment in uniting the ISMSP (International Society of Mine Safety Professionals) and SME so to elevate the crucial role of health and safety in the industry," according to the citation.
Savit counsels clients in government investigations and regulatory matters and litigates improper enforcement actions and whistleblower cases. He has extensive experience in mining and oil and gas; health, safety and environmental law; industrial disaster response; and regulatory and legislative services. Savit began his career at the U.S. Department of the Interior, where he headed the special investigation unit of the Mining Enforcement and Safety Administration.
Savit will receive the President’s Citation Award at an event to be held Wednesday, February 22, 2017 during the SME 2017 Annual Conference & Expo in Denver.
