Missouri Bar to honor Gary Barnes with Roser award

Gary D. Barnes, a partner in the insolvency & commercial bankruptcy group at Husch Blackwell in Kansas City, will receive the 2019 Michael R. Roser Excellence in Bankruptcy Award Oct.4 at the Midwestern Bankruptcy Institute in Kansas City.

The commercial law committee of The Missouri Bar will present the award, which recognizes an attorney who manifests the highest standard of excellence in bankruptcy practice, contributes distinctively to the development and appreciation of bankruptcy law and has made an outstanding contribution in the field of bankruptcy administration or practice. The committee has presented the award, which honors the late Kansas City bankruptcy attorney Michael R. Roser, since 1994.

Barnes has acted as national and regional insolvency counsel representing secured lenders, landlords, lessors, preference defendants, buyers in Section 363 sales and creditors’ committees in commercial financial restructurings and bankruptcy.  He also serves as special insolvency counsel for a number of bank clients and has served as a panel trustee in Chapter 7 bankruptcy proceedings in the Western District of Missouri for approximately 30 years.

A fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy, Barnes also is an adjunct professor at the University of Missouri Kansas-City School of Law and an organizer of the initial Honorable Arthur B. Federman Bankruptcy Trial Skills Academy. He earned his law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law.
