Human Trafficking Legal Clinic

Human Trafficking Legal Clinic

In an unprecedented dedication of resources by a law firm, Husch Blackwell launched the Human Trafficking Legal Clinic to maximize efforts in the fight against human trafficking. The legal clinic is the first of its kind in the country.

Through the clinic, the firm represents all types of human trafficking victims — international and domestic, adults and children — in commercial sex and forced labor trafficking cases referred to the firm by law enforcement, prosecutors and partnering non-profit agencies.

More than 40 of the firm’s partners and associates volunteer to provide services for the clinic on a pro bono basis. In addition, the firm provides outreach and training on topics of human trafficking.

Legal Assistance

Legal issues for trafficking victims can come in many forms. Because Husch Blackwell is a full-service law firm, the Human Trafficking Legal Clinic is able to offer a wide range of legal assistance based on the needs of the victims. Some of the matters the clinic helps address include:

  • Immigration issues
  • Criminal charges against victims
  • Custody disputes
  • Identity theft, credit and financial issues

Mandating Change: Human Trafficking Compliance

As of March 2, 2015, all companies with a government contract are mandated to immediately comply with newly enacted human trafficking regulations. Companies with government contracts that exceed $500,000 are additionally required to have a tailored compliance program and provide certification. Husch Blackwell is the only firm in the nation to offer tailored anti-human trafficking government compliance programs.
