Wakaba has focused her legal career on healthcare law. She regularly advises health systems and hospitals on various operational issues, including federal fraud and abuse issues related to the Stark Law, the False Claims Act and the anti-kickback statute, medical staff matters, bylaws, rules and regulations, policies and procedures, accreditation matters, peer review, credentialing and physician disciplinary issues.
She also has extensive experience counseling clients on human-subjects research and institutional review board regulatory compliance. Wakaba advises physicians, physician practices and other healthcare professionals on issues related to federal and state compliance issues, including Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, licensing, supervision requirements and scope of practice.
Wakaba regularly negotiates and manages various healthcare transactions, including the acquisition and merger of physician practices, hospitals and joint ventures. In addition, she advises clients on laboratory compliance issues related to billing and licensing.
Additionally, Wakaba is a board member for the Health Partnership Clinic and the Missouri Society of Health Care Attorneys.
