McClain assists clients with ongoing compliance with federal and state political laws, with a particular emphasis in the Midwest. She counsels clients on the nuances of pay-to-play laws and assists in the development of comprehensive political law compliance programs tailored to particular client needs and assists with the implementation of these programs. In addition, she assists clients with congressional, civil and criminal investigations before the U.S. Congress and various federal and state agencies and departments concerning political activity and other regulatory compliance.
Previously, while working on her MBA, McClain interned in the offices of Rep. Karen McCarthy and Sen. Jean Carnahan, both of Missouri, and Sen. Bob Graham of Florida. She also worked at the government relations firms Pittman Law Group in Tallahassee, Fla., and Wheat Government Relations in Arlington, Va., prior to entering law school. McClain was the Midwest appointee to the Democratic National Committee’s Youth Coordinating Council from 2009-2011 and a fellow to the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Committee. She also served on Kansas City, Mo., Mayor Sly James’ 2011 transition team, chairing the committee on municipal boards and commissions.
