Joan is an experienced member of Husch Blackwell’s Food & Agribusiness team who counsels and protects clients through her business and intellectual property practice. She also leads the firm’s Food Safety & Labeling team, providing counseling on food safety issues for both human and pet food, particularly those related to the implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).
Joan is a business-savvy, tenacious trial attorney and counselor focused on advancing the goals of clients who often seek her counsel to protect assets and maximize rewards. Her clients range from start-ups to Fortune 1000 companies. She is a veteran in state and federal courts and has significant first chair experience in high stakes cases, including emergency preliminary injunction matters. Joan also has a Ph.D. in Communication Studies and Jury Behavior and has trial consulting experience, including performing jury studies. Sensitive to the high cost of litigation, Joan employs Law Practice Management tools to collaborate with clients in controlling costs.
