Joe Cornelison to Practice Educational Institution Law
Husch Blackwell is pleased to announce that Joseph W. Cornelison joined the firm's Kansas City, Mo., office as Senior Counsel. His practice will focus on Educational Institution law.
Prior to joining the firm, Cornelison most recently served as General Counsel for the Missouri Department of Higher Education (2010-2011) and as General Counsel for Northwest Missouri State University (2005-2009). Before transitioning to higher education, Cornelison was General Counsel for defense contractor MZM, Inc. (2001-2005), and Of Counsel for Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP (2000-2001) in Washington, D.C. In addition, Cornelison served five years as Deputy Administrator of the Panama Canal under President Bill Clinton (1995-2000).
Prior to his civilian career, Cornelison spent more than 25 years serving in the U.S. Army, retiring as a colonel in 1995. During his time in service, Cornelison received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center (1977), where he was Managing Editor of The Georgetown Law Review. Cornelison received his Masters in Public Service from Western Kentucky University (1977) and his B.S. from the U.S. Military Academy (1969).
