National Law Journal: In K.C., Consolidation is the Watchword

8.09.10

Co-Chairman Dave Fenley was quoted in an August 9, 2010, National Law Journal article examining the recent spate of law firm mergers in Kansas City.

All the recent sizable law firm mergers in Kansas City have taken place between locally based law firms - not between a coastal firm and a Kansas City-based firm, as has been the trend elsewhere. In explaining this trend, the drive to larger law firms can be attributed to the need to secure clients outside of Kansas City, as the market is largely saturated with law firms and home to only three Fortune 500 companies.

"We did not then, nor do we now, think that being 300 lawyers is a particularly viable option for securing large clients, particularly as we look to the future," Fenley said.
