News Releases

Trial attorney Mark C. Milton has joined Husch Blackwell’s St. Louis, Mo., office. Previously serving within the U.S. Department of Justice’s Tax Division in Washington, D.C., Milton joins the firm’s Technology, Manufacturing & Transportation group, and is the most recent addition to the Government Compliance, Investigations & Litigation team, which has added nine attorneys to its ranks over the past 15 months.

While working for the Department of Justice, Milton served as lead counsel for the U.S. Government in various matters. He was co-counsel in the first ever injunction action referred to the DOJ by the Large Business and International Division of the IRS and in the first ever injunction brought against a real estate appraiser. Milton also obtained permanent injunctions against several illegal tax shelter promoters and fraudulent tax return preparers.

“Mark’s experience at the Department of Justice, particularly his skill set in the area of tax controversy, is a rare find in the Midwest,” said Catherine Hanaway, leader of the firm’s Government Compliance, Investigations & Litigation team. “The specialized knowledge he brings to our team will prove invaluable to our clients.”

Upon receiving his J.D., Milton was selected for the Attorney General’s Honors Program – a highly competitive four-year program for newly admitted lawyers committed to public service. The Honors Program placed him with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Tax Division, where he served as a trial attorney from 2010 through mid-July 2014.

Milton received his J.D., cum laude, from Saint Louis University School of Law, (2010), where he was an editor and published author for the Saint Louis University Law Journal. He was also the recipient of the 2010 ALI-ABA scholarship and leadership award, presented to one graduating student each year. Milton received his B.S. in Accountancy, with honors, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2007).
