Husch Blackwell Represents MountainStar Sports Group's Purchase, Relocation of the Tucson Padres

News Releases

Assisted by the law firm of Husch Blackwell, El Paso, Texas, soon will be getting a new baseball team — and a $50 million downtown ballpark, to boot. Real Estate & Development attorneys Paul Jacobs and Shane Orr recently represented MountainStar Sports Group in its purchase of the Tucson Padres, the Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. The sale was finalized on Oct. 11, 2012.

The duo, experienced in public-private partnerships, also negotiated agreements with the city of El Paso to develop and lease a new ballpark there. The Padres will move to El Paso in time for the 2014 season, making it one of only 30 Major League Baseball Triple-A cities in the nation.

Jacobs previously represented the city of San Diego in connection with the development of Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres, and its surrounding ballpark district. The $1 billion urban redevelopment project has been universally recognized as one of the most successful public-private partnerships in the nation. Jacobs also represented the Colorado Rockies in the development of Coors Field.
