Husch Blackwell Sanders Welsh & Katz is pleased to announce that Don J. Mizerk has joined the firm as Partner in the Intellectual Property Litigation practice area. Mizerk is an experienced litigator of patent infringement and other complex intellectual property and commercial cases. He was previously a Partner in the Chicago office of Winston & Strawn LLP.
“Don’s experience as trial counsel in complex generic pharmaceutical patent litigation adds depth and value to an already strong, international practice,” states A. Sidney Katz, National Chair of Husch Blackwell Sanders’ Intellectual Property practice and Managing Partner of the Chicago office. “We are getting a top-flight, in demand, trial attorney,” he explains.
Mizerk, 45, has represented clients seeking to market generic versions of many well known drugs, including Wellbutrin XL©, Strattera©, Adderall XR©, Clarinex©, Enablex©, Cymbalta© and Ambien CR©, among others. Mizerk works with clients to develop and execute aggressive, cost-effective strategies for the management of cases and other legal disputes. He has also led teams of attorneys in complex patent, commercial, real estate and white collar litigation, including trials in four major patent cases. He also has significant appellate experience and has argued many cases before the Federal Circuit, Seventh Circuit, Illinois Supreme Court and Illinois Appellate Court.
From 1991 to 1996, Mizerk was a chief assistant to Cook County State’s Attorney Jack O’Malley. His first year out of law school, Mizerk was a law clerk to the Honorable Harry W. Wellford in the U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit. Mizerk earned his J.D. from Vanderbilt University (1988), where he was named to the Order of the Coif. He received a B.A. in Political Science from Illinois Wesleyan University (1985), where he graduated magna cum laude.
