Benjamin F. Mann, the managing partner of Husch Blackwell’s Kansas City office, has been selected for the 2014 Class of Fellows of the American College of Bankruptcy. The American College of Bankruptcy is an honorary professional and educational association of bankruptcy and insolvency professionals; Mann is one of 33 nominees being recognized for professional excellence and exceptional contributions to the fields of restructuring and insolvency.

An induction ceremony and reception honoring the new fellows will take place March 14, 2014, at the Smithsonian Donald W. Reynolds Center for American Art and Portraiture in Washington, D.C.

Mann is nationally recognized for his expertise in bankruptcy, restructuring and creditors’ rights and has substantial bankruptcy experience within the manufacturing industry. He created and organized the creditors’ rights and bankruptcy practice at Husch Blackwell and is a member of the firm’s Technology, Manufacturing & Transportation industry team. In addition, he is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Midwestern Bankruptcy Institute advisory board and the Western District of Missouri Bankruptcy Court advisory board.

Mann joins two other Husch Blackwell attorneys as fellows of the American College of Bankruptcy. Partner Christopher J. Redmond was inducted in 2004 and Partner Gary D. Barnes, leader of the firm’s Financial Services industry team, was inducted in 2008.

Nominees for the American College of Bankruptcy fellows undergo a rigorous nomination process and are extended an invitation to join based on a sustained record of achievement reflecting the highest standards of professionalism. Candidates are selected by the college’s board of regents from among recommendations of circuit admissions councils in each federal judicial circuit, and by specially appointed committees for judicial and foreign fellows.

Criteria for selection as a fellow of the college include:

  • the highest standard of professionalism, ethics, character, integrity, professional expertise and leadership contributing to the enhancement of bankruptcy and insolvency law and practice;
  • sustained evidence of scholarship, teaching, lecturing or writing on bankruptcy or insolvency; and
  • commitment to elevate knowledge and understanding of the profession and public respect for the practice.

Husch Blackwell’s Insolvency & Commercial Bankruptcy team represents clients dealing with financially distressed enterprises regarding commercial financial issues. Its attorneys have represented all of the major constituencies in bankruptcy proceedings and non-bankruptcy restructurings, covering the full spectrum of creditor and debtor representations.
