Loren Wells Joins as Of Counsel
Husch Blackwell welcomes Loren S. Wells to the firm's Chicago office as Of Counsel. As part of the Intellectual Property team, Wells focuses his practice on entertainment-based intellectual property law matters.
Prior to joining the firm, Wells worked as a sole practitioner, advising creative professionals—such as artists, musicians, freelancers and entrepreneurs on various legal matters, including business law, contracts, media law and intellectual property matters. Before starting his solo practice, Wells worked with Washington University Law School’s Center for Empirical Research in the Law, where he founded The Discography: Legal Encyclopedia of Popular Music, the first expansive case law database for the music industry. He currently serves as its lay Executive Director, maintaining its content and expanding its breadth. Wells is also Legal and Business Director to Carbon Studios, an open office creative studio space in Chicago, and is a freelance artist, musician and writer/editor.
Wells received his J.D., cum laude, from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis (2010), where he was Articles Editor for the Washington University Law Review and received a CALI Excellence for the Future Award. During law school, he worked with entertainment attorney Daniel R. Friedman as both a music industry client and a law student intern. Prior to law school, Wells was a Program Director at the Levine Hillel Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago, before joining Morningstar, Inc., an investment research company in downtown Chicago, as a Product Consultant. Wells received his B.A., with High Distinction, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2003). He won the University of Illinois Stand Up Competition in 2004.
