| Gary is the Co-Chair of the Insolvency and Commercial Bankruptcy Department and a member of the firm's Partner Board. Gary's primary practice is the representation of creditors and committees in reorganizations and liquidations. Gary serves as national insolvency counsel for several lenders. He also serves as special insolvency counsel for numerous regional, metropolitan and rural banks. Gary served as local counsel for the Official Unsecured Creditors' Committee in the Farmland Industries bankruptcy case, the largest bankruptcy filed in the Western District of Missouri and one of the 20 largest bankruptcy cases filed in 2002. |

Gary is a Fellow of both the American College of Bankruptcy Lawyers and the American Bar Foundation. He is listed in Best Lawyers in America® in 1997-1998, 1998-1999, 2001-2002, 2003-2004 and 2005-2006 in the area of Bankruptcy Law and in the 2006-2010 editions in the area of Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights Law. Gary has been named "Best of the Bar" by the Kansas City Business Journal, most recently in 2007. He has also been voted as a Missouri & Kansas “Super Lawyer®”, most recently in the 2009 edition, in the area of Bankruptcy & Creditor/Debtor Rights law. Gary was also voted a Top 100 Missouri and Kansas “Super Lawyer®” in 2008. In 2007 and 2008, he was listed as one of the nation's best attorneys by Best of the U.S., LLC.
Gary is a Past Chairman of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association Commercial and Bankruptcy Committee and served as a member of the Electronic Case Filing Committee for the Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Missouri. He currently is the immediate past Chair of the Bank Counsel Section Advisory Board of the Missouri Bankers Association. Gary is a former Chair of the Ad Hoc Advisory Committee to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Missouri. For more than fifteen years, he has served as a Chapter 7 trustee panel member (appointed by the Office of the United States Trustee, a division of the Department of Justice) for the Western District of Missouri. He has also served as a Court appointed bankruptcy examiner and Chapter 11 Responsible Person.
After graduating from law school, Gary was District Director and Counsel to Congressman Richard Bolling for four years. He then served as a law clerk to the Honorable Dennis J. Stewart, former Chief Judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Missouri. |
